Former Oklahoma Sooners freshman quarterback Caleb Williams is arguably the hottest name to enter the college football transfer portal this season. Williams made his announcement, to enter the portal, shortly after the Sooners defeated the Oregon Ducks in the Alamo bowl.

Other members of his family have spoken out about the decision and what their plans are going forward, most notably his father, Carl Williams. And as the rest of the college football world waits at the edge of their seat for his announcement, like the sequel to a good book or movie, we’ll all have to wait a little longer.

According to Yahoo Sports Pete Thamel, the family is on vacation this week and will be taking their time to make an announcement:

“Spoke to Carl Williams, Caleb’s dad. He said no decision on anything with Caleb’s future is imminent, and the family plans to take their time with the decision. The family is on vacation this week, chuckling at all the rumors,” Thamel tweeted.

Caleb Williams announcement

Caleb Williams announced he will be entering the transfer portal, on Monday via Twitter. The true freshman quarterback will explore his options while not completely ruling out returning to Norman, he said.

“As you all know, the sudden changes this season sent shockwaves through Sooner Nation and were really hard for the whole team,” Williams wrote. “… I think we all come to college to find our own path and prepare for the future. I came to Oklahoma with a game plan, but with all the recent changes, I need to figure out what is the right path for me moving forward.

“According to NCAA rules, as a student-athlete, the only way I can speak with other schools and see who many offer the best preparation and development for my future career is by entering the portal. Staying at OU will definitely be an option as I begin this process.”

Father knows best

As everyone continues to follow the breaking development of the Oklahoma Sooners star freshman quarterback Caleb Williams entering the transfer portal, more information has come to light on the situation.

According to Pete Thamel, Carl Williams explained that his son, Caleb Williams, has not picked out a destination. And the key thing that they are focusing on when it comes to school selections is preparation to become an NFL quarterback.

“Professional development. We want Caleb to be ready to play when he becomes a pro. You go to college to get prepared for your career. His chosen career path is professional football. We want him to be prepared for when that time comes,” said Willams.
