According to Sooners on SI, Oklahoma defensive back Makari Vickers was arrested on Wednesday by the OU police department. Despite being booked in Cleveland County, exactly why Vickers was arrested is not yet known.

“The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Sooners on SI that Vickers had been arrested by the OU Police Department and booked into Cleveland County, but the Sheriff’s Office was unable to give any additional details,” the report said.

Oklahoma is aware of the situation and says they will be handling the matter internally.

“We are aware of the matter and it is being addressed internally,” the Oklahoma athletic department said in a statement to SI.

George Stoia of On3’s Sooner Scoop was able to confirm the report.

Vickers is entering his second season with the program after playing in eight games as a true freshman. There were some injury problems as the defensive back missed four games in 2023. Not too many stats for Vickers either, putting up eight tackles and one PBU against Tulsa early in the year.

Back during his recruitment, Vickers was considered a huge win for head coach Brent Venables. Vickers was also considering Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide but he chose to play for the Sooners.

Vickers played high school football at Tallahassee (FL) Robert F Munroe Day School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 83 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Brent Venables speaks to potential of Oklahoma offensive line

As Oklahoma and Texas move into the SEC, many want to know how the two teams stack up at the line of scrimmage. Especially the Sooners at the offensive line, potentially being the team’s biggest outside question heading into the 2024 season. Head coach Brent Venables is putting out a completely new five out there, mixing between NCAA transfer portal imports and former depth players stepping up.

A program known for producing at offensive line, Venables is trusting in position coach Bill Bedenbaugh in a big way. Some development needs to take place before the Aug. 30 season opener against Temple but Venables likes the group of guys he has in front of him, at least on paper.

“We got a lot of experience,” Venables said at the SEC Spring Meetings in Destin. “I feel really, really good. We got great leadership there. We got really good ability there as well. I believe in the players and I believe in Coach Bedenbaugh and the rest of the offensive staff to develop the chemistry and continuity and the understanding and the fundamentals and the techniques with those guys. So, I like that group of guys.”
