5-star LB Sammy Brown visits Oklahoma
Jefferson (Ga.) five-star linebacker Sammy Brown is visiting multiple programs this month. His latest stop was to Oklahoma.
Brown spent time in Norman from April 5-6. The Sooners are under serious consideration by the 6-foot-2.5, 225-pound defender for an official visit.
“I think a lot of what coach (Brent) Venables has done at Oklahoma has been very similar to what coach Swinney’s done at Clemson,” Brown told On3’s Chad Simmons on March 3. “He’s done a very good job out there developing it and really bringing it into a very family-oriented and relationship-built football team. He’s done a great job of really getting the players to buy into that.
“It’s a very historic program. Oklahoma’s always been a contender for a national title and I think he’s doing a really great job of building back up to that. They’ve had some very good linebackers in the past.”
Brown is the No. 18 overall prospect and No. 1 linebacker in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 4 player in Georgia.
The five-star has already scheduled official visits to Clemson (June 2), Georgia (June 9) and Ohio State (June 16). Additionally, he is planning to visit Tennessee this weekend.

Brown saw the Bulldogs last weekend and was in Death Valley on April 3. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Georgia has a close lead for his pledge at 32.0%.
“I think one of the biggest things is how they play and how they practice,” Brown told On3’s Jeremy Johnson on March 27 about Georgia. “They get after it. When they get on that practice field, it’s like old-school football. They’re hitting. Every time we’ve been for a practice there’s been a fight between an offensive lineman and a defensive lineman. That’s them just getting after it and being aggressive. One of their selling points to me is just how aggressive they play.”
Brown is a top target for Oklahoma this cycle
Oklahoma’s 2024 recruiting class currently contains only one player in Queen Creek (Ariz.) Casteel four-star cornerback Jeremiah Newcombe. However, Venables and his staff are contending for some of the top players in the country.
They include Brown, Lee’s Summit (Mo.) Lee’s Summit North five-star defensive lineman Williams Nwaneri, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy five-star defensive lineman David Stone and Midlothian (Texas) four-star wide receiver Bryant Wesco. Additionally, the Sooners have a commanding lead on the RPM for McKinney (Texas) Frisco Emerson four-star quarterback Michael Hawkins, who is committing on April 8.
