Skip Johnson posts message amid Oklahoma contract talks, Texas A&M interest
After news broke of his plans to stay at Oklahoma, Skip Johnson shared a message to the Sooners Saturday afternoon. He made a post on social media indicating he was home.
Johnson took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a house emoji and said “Boomer Sooner” as his future at OU became clear. D1 Baseball’s Kendall Rogers reported the expectation is the Sooners will keep their head coach amid Texas A&M’s pursuit, including a new deal.

Johnson’s post further showed his commitment to Oklahoma after seven seasons with the program. As for Texas A&M, its search to replace Jim Schlossnagle will continue.
“Lookie Here,” Johnson wrote, along with an emoji of a house. “Boomer Sooner.”
After Johnson shared his message on social media, Oklahoma athletics director Joe Castiglione had one of his own. He posted a photo of himself and Johnson holding the Big 12 championship trophy, along with a lock emoji.
Johnson was one of a handful of names to interview for the Texas A&M opening after Schlossnagle left for Texas. On3 and Sooner Scoop’s Eddie Radosevich provided an update on the Aggies’ interest and where things stand on the next steps for Johnson at Oklahoma on The Crimson Corner board Saturday morning, as well.

Intel on potential head coaching moves
Wake Forest head coach Tom Walter and Aggies assistant Michael Earley – who’s preparing to join Schlossnagle with the Longhorns – also interviewed for the position this week, Rogers previously reported. Indications are Texas A&M could move quickly with the search to replace Schlossnagle, who took the Aggies to the College World Series final before his departure earlier this week.
Walter just completed his 15th season at Wake Forest and took the program to the College World Series in 2023. That marked the program’s first trip to Omaha since 1995. The ACC Coach of the Year that season, Walter has a 456-361-1 record in Winston-Salem.
Skip Johnson has a 229-153 overall record during his seven seasons at Oklahoma, including an 85-65 mark in Big 12 play. He’s the latest candidate at Texas A&M to stay put, along with Virginia’s Brian O’Connor. The Daily Progress’ Greg Madia reported his plans to remain at UVA Friday morning.
As for who else could be on Texas A&M’s radar, Rogers told TexAgs the Aggies could go big game hunting as Trev Alberts goes through the process to replace Schlossnagle. That could include calling the coach who just beat the Aggies in the CWS final – Tony Vitello – although it doesn’t sound like he’ll leave Tennessee. Still, the search is shaping up to be an interesting one to replace Schlossnagle.
