Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler discussed his play during postgame interviews following the Sooners win over Tulane on Saturday. Rattler threw for 309 yards and one touchdown in the win, but had two passes intercepted.

Following a second-half scare where Tulane outscored Oklahoma 21-3, the Sooners were glad to end their opening week with a 40-35 win. Afterwards, Rattler discussed his interception thrown on just the second play of the game.

“First half I thought we did well,” Rattler explained. “Obviously the whole game we didn’t play amazing. But first throw down the field, [the] safety, I thought he was dropping deeper. I threw the ball… there was a hole. He made a great play on the ball. We didn’t connect on that, I probably should have dumped it down.”

Despite the initial hiccup, Oklahoma played a great first half to enter halftime with a 37-14 lead. That comfortable lead would hold as Oklahoma began the season with a win.

“After that I felt we rolled pretty well,” Rattler continued. “Consistently just hitting those seams up the middle. Our run game was solid, [offensive] line was blocking well. The second half we just came out a little casual.”

Rattler’s final statement on the matter was simple. He expects better from himself and this Oklahoma team.

“We just [have] to be cleaner, got to be sharper… I’ve got to be better.”

A rough week for Tulane

Tulane’s performance caught the attention of Rattler, and he was full of praise for the Green Wave.

“Shoutout to Tulane even for coming down here,” Rattler said. “I appreciate those guys coming down here and playing us with everything going on where they’re from. That’s a tough team. That was one of the hardest hitting teams, one of the most physical teams I’ve ever played. They came out there and played great, they played better than us for sure. They wanted to win more than us, you could just tell it.”

In a difficult week that saw Tulane forced to relocate their practice to Oklahoma due to Hurricane Ida, the Sooners stepped to their aid prior to the game.

The game was originally set to be played in New Orleans on Saturday. It was relocated to Oklahoma, but Tulane served as the designated home team despite the game being played on Oklahoma’s home turf. The Green Wave were able to see familiar logos on the field however, as Oklahoma painted their field with Tulane’s logo to honor the team’s difficult situation.
