WATCH: Tight end Brayden Willis makes epic catch in Oklahoma practice
Spring football is in the air for the Oklahoma Sooners and fans in Norman and beyond have gotten a taste of some highlight reel plays this spring to wet their appetites for Sooner football. On Wednesday afternoon, Sooners tight end Brayden Willis showed off beautiful footwork in the end zone as he rotated his body and tapped both toes in the corner. Check out the beautiful throw from Dillon Gabriel to Willis in the end zone.
The toss was made in an Oklahoma practice on Wednesday.
It was a beautifully placed football by Gabriel and the catch was just textbook by Willis, beautifully extending his hands away from his body to make the catch and then rotate back around to get both of his feet in. He also demonstrated excellent body control by being able to get both feet in bounds for the touchdown. Oklahoma tight end coach Joe Jon Finley recently gave Willis high praise in a press conference, “He’s a lead by example type of guy… he’s going to do everything right. It’s a great picture for those younger guys to see that every day. He’s become more vocal because he’s earned that right.”
Brayden Willis should be exciting to watch in 2022-2023 and the Sooners return two of the nation’s best wideouts
Willis should be an exciting player to watch catch passes from Dillon Gabriel in the 2022-2023 season. Last season, he had 15 catches for 177 receiving yards and two touchdowns. If he keeps making plays like the one above, he’s going to to be a problem for opposing defenses next season. As a high school prospect out of Martin High School (Arlington, Texas), Willis was rated as a three-star prospect in the 2018 recruiting class, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings.

The Sooners have the potential to have an electrifying passing attack in 2022-2023, thanks to returning two of the most promising receivers in all of college football, Theo Wease and Marvin Mims. While neither have had a statistical breakout season yet, the potential is there.
The Oklahoma Sooners spring game is set for Saturday, April 23 at 3:00 PM CST at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The game will also feature the dedication of former Sooner legend Baker Mayfield’s Heisman Trophy at halftime.
