Tim Tebow reveals keys to Oklahoma defense stifling Quinn Ewers, Texas offense
Tim Tebow broke down what Oklahoma’s defense must do to make Quinn Ewers life difficult in his return to action against the Sooners on Saturday afternoon.
While Tebow has nothing but respect for the Texas quarterback and the Longhorns offense as a whole, the former Heisman winner believes Brent Venables squad has a shot to torment Ewers and company, as the Red River Showdown is presented by the SEC for the first time in Week 7.
“Well, I think it really starts by tackling in space,” Tebow explained, via SportsCenter on Saturday. “This defense has been so good this year, even in their loss to Tennessee, they were fantastic. It really starts by their pressure, and tackling in space. Because what Texas does so well offensively is they give you so many looks. There’s so many RPOs, there’s so many counters, there’s so many plays to the wide side of the field where they’re getting it to guys in space. What a defense has to do, like Oklahoma, you’ve got to tackle when you have those one-on-one opportunities, because what Steve Sarkisian is doing offensively, I think it’s the best in football. I think what Steve Sarkisian is as a play-caller, to college football, is what Kyle Shanahan is with the 49ers to the NFL. He’s doing such a good job.
“So, when you’ve got those great play calls, you have to tackle in space, and you have to put Quinn Ewers in a third and long. Now, they’re back on their heels. They’re not able just to keep dialing up those great play calls. You’ve got to start by tackling in space.”

That sounds simple enough for the Sooners, but Texas will surely be deploying some tactics we haven’t seen yet in 2024. The aforementioned Sarkisian always has a few tricks up his sleeve, especially when it comes to playing against Oklahoma.
Time will tell if Oklahoma’s defense can make life difficult for Texas, but it’ll all come to a head on Saturday afternoon, as kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. on ABC, with the latest chapter in the Red River Rivalry to be written.
