Oklahoma true freshman quarterback Caleb Williams has made history for the second time this month, breaking his own Sooners freshman record. Williams had thrown for 349 yards at the end of the third quarter against Texas Tech, the most for a true freshman at OU.
He had already passed the previous record of 295 yards — which he set against TCU — when he tossed his fifth touchdown of the game, a 43-yard connection with Marvin Mims. It was the second score of the day for the receiver, who also had a 67-yard touchdown in the opening quarter.
The play put the Sooners up 38-7 late in the third, as they have been in complete control from the start. The Red Raiders trailed by score of 38-14 at the start of the fourth.
Williams made his first start of the season against the Horned Frogs in Week 7. He replaced Spencer Rattler, who began the season atop the depth chart with Heisman aspirations.
Williams has done nothing but impress since then, even in his first road game this past week against Kansas. Although it wasn’t necessarily the best start for the freshman, he made up for it with a heads-up play in the second half that clinched the game.

He saw his first action in the Red River Rivalry, in which he replaced Rattler after a pair of early turnovers. He led the Sooners back to win from 21 points down, the largest comeback victory in the long history of the game.
Late in the fourth quarter against Texas Tech, the quarterback added to his already big day. He found Austin Stogner for a 9-yard touchdown that would mark Williams’ sixth of the contest.
The Sooners have a bye week after this game before hitting the road to take on No. 16 Baylor on Nov. 13 in Waco, Texas. The way things are going, it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see Caleb Williams set another Oklahoma record in that one.
