WATCH: Dillon Gabriel runs for first touchdown of Brent Venables era
Are we sure that’s not Lincoln Riley’s Oklahoma? The new-look Sooners under Brent Venables scored just as quickly and as easily as OU fans are used to. With Dillon Gabriel under center, the Sooners needed just five plays to storm down the field and score a touchdown.
Gabriel completed two passes, including one to Marvin Mims for 42 yards, before he kept the ball himself for a 12-yard touchdown run. Which you can see right here:

Whew, that was fast. And Venables is supposed to be a defensive guy, right? That offense doesn’t look a step behind the Oklahoma teams of the last several years. At least if the first drive of Venables tenure is any indication.
Oklahoma 7, UTEP 0 after one minute and 17 seconds. It’s nice to have football back.
Another one!
Oklahoma and Dillon Gabriel didn’t need much time to get on the board a second time either. After getting a stop on UTEP’s first possession, Dillon Gabriel and co. got right back to work. Their second scoring drive lasted a little bit longer than the first, but the result was nonetheless the same.
A touchdown. This time on a pass from Gabriel to Brayden Willis. Check it out:
New coach, new QB, same ol’ Sooners.
