WATCH: Oklahoma QB commit Jackson Arnold goes off in season opener
Denton (Texas) Guyer five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold wasted no time getting his senior season started, leading his squad to an impressive 47-14 victory over Rockwall (Texas) Rockwall-Heath.
The Oklahoma commit put together a pair of eye-popping plays, including a 63-yard touchdown pass and a 64-yard rushing touchdown.
On the third play of the season opener, Arnold connected with wide receiver Landon Sides for the long touchdown pass.
After shifting right in the pocket, Arnold released a high-arching throw downfield. Sides was on a few steps ahead of his defender and reeled in the catch in stride before racing into the end zone.
In the third quarter, Arnold took a read option to his right, then split through the defensive front and raced untouched to the end zone.

Jackson Arnold Recruiting Profile
Arnold is the No. 17 overall prospect and No. 5 quarterback in the 2023 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 3 player in Texas.
Arnold is the highest-ranked recruit in the Sooners’ 2023 recruiting class, which ranks No. 7 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 2 in the Big 12. On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power writes this about him as prospect:
“Tough, live-armed quarterback who quickly rose to be the top 2023 signal caller in Texas in his first year as a starter. Plays for one of the top high school programs in the Dallas Metroplex and led his team to the state title game as a junior. Plays in a spread-iso offensive scheme that heavily utilizes play action downfield passes and power running between the tackles. Shows a strong arm with the ability to generate velocity on intermediate and downfield throws.
“A light-footed athlete who consistently escapes pressure and makes plays out of the pocket. One of the tougher top quarterbacks in the 2023 cycle, carrying a considerable rushing load. A physical runner who embraces contact. Hit the ground running in his first year as a varsity starter against top competition. Has a smaller frame than some other top quarterbacks in the cycle.”
