WATCH: Oklahoma Sooners release hype video for Nebraska rivalry game
The Oklahoma Sooners released a hype video via Twitter for its game against Nebraska on Saturday. The teams haven’t met since 2010, when Oklahoma defeated the Huskers in the Big 12 Championship Game.
The former conference rivals have a long history against each other. Playing together in both the Big 12 and Big Eight conferences, they routinely met in one of the most anticipated games in the country.
The most notable game happened in 1976, when No. 1 Nebraska met the No. 2 Sooners. That’s likely one Sooners fans will want to forget, however, as a batted fourth-down pass allowed the Huskers to escape with a 35-31 victory.
Although Nebraska can claim that game, OU holds a 45-38-3 lead all-time. The Sooners also claimed an Orange Bowl win against them in 1979.
Fans from both teams have been waiting for the rivalry to be renewed since Nebraska left the Big 12 in 2012. Finally, it’s here, with kickoff set for 12 a.m. EST.

Analyst calls out Kentucky fans
The No. 3 Sooners (2-0) are coming off of an extremely lopsided victory against Western Carolina. Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler threw for 243 yards and five touchdowns (all in the first half) in a 76-0 win. It was the bounce back effort the team needed after narrowly escaping Tulane, 40-35, in Week 1.
Nebraska (2-1) lost its season opener to Illinois, 30-22. The Huskers have since rebounded with a pair of victories against Fordham and Buffalo.
If they hope to pull off an upset, they will need a big game from quarterback Adrian Martinez. He led the team with 521 yards rushing this past season and already has 256 yards and three touchdowns on the ground this year.
Emotions will certainly be high in the first matchup between the teams in more than 10 years. As the hype video showed, the games between Oklahoma and Nebraska have generally been exciting and close. Are we in for another classic this weekend?
