2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships: Oklahoma State's Jordan Williams upsets Iowa's Caleb Rathjen
Oklahoma State’s Jordan Williams pulled off quite the upset in the first round at 149 pounds with a 12-5 decision over Iowa’s Caleb Rathjen.
With the match tied 5-5 late in the third period, it appeared Rathjen had the edge. However, Williams would not let the Hawkeye take his foot and the two scrambled in the middle of the mat.
Following a scramble, Williams ended up on top and locked up a cradle, turning Rathjen in the process for a takedown and nearfall points.
With the win, Williams advanced to the 2nd round on Thursday night. He’ll take on No. 4 Caleb Henson (Virginia Tech) with a chance to advance to the quarterfinals.
