Oklahoma State names Alan Bowman starting quarterback vs. Kansas State
Oklahoma State has been a roller coaster at the quarterback position this season. Mike Gundy has not been able to settle on one name. But as the Cowboys get into the thick of Big 12 play, they have decided to go with someone who has experience in the conference.
Alan Bowman will be Oklahoma State’s starting quarterback against Kansas State on Friday night. Gundy made the announcement on Monday, saying he has been playing well and has earned the right to get the first snap this weekend.
“He played good enough to get the start, and we’ll watch from there,” Gundy said during his radio show.
Earlier in the day, Gundy was asked during a press conference about Bowman potentially starting. Gundy was noncommittal, admitting it was something they were working on in practice. Well, Tuesday’s practice from Bowman must have done enough for a decision to be made.
Gunnar Gundy and Garrett Rangel have gotten significant snaps for Oklahoma State this season. Nobody has truly been impressive, leaving Mike Gundy with a decision to make heading into the second Big 12 game of this season.
Bowman has completed 53 of 100 pass attempts this season, going for 513 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. He is in his sixth season of college football, previously playing for Texas Tech and Michigan.

Oklahoma State is coming off a bye and the Iowa State loss is still the latest result. Bowman was able to air the ball out, having 48 pass attempts. Receivers caught 23 of them, going for 278 yards, two touchdowns, and added in two of his three interceptions on the year.
Oklahoma State heading into critical Kansas State matchup with Alan Bowman
Just once in the Mike Gundy era has Oklahoma State started Big 12 play with two consecutive losses. It occurred back in 2005, the first season Gundy took over for Les Miles. While the other program in the state has played at a higher level, the Cowboys have been up there as one of the most consistent in the conference.
A loss to Kanas State and the record books will have to change a bit. Oddsmakers expect it to happen as well, with the Wildcats being a near two-touchdown favorite.
Bowman will be the guy hoping to get Oklahoma State back to their winning ways. A potentially weird Friday night matchup could bring some magic to Stillwater.
