Bryce Thompson injury update: Steve Lutz reveals status of star Oklahoma State guard
Oklahoma State’s Bryce Thompson dealt with a turned ankle to end the Cowboys’ win against Kansas State on Tuesday. Following the 79-66 win, Steve Lutz had the latest on their lead guard and the injury.
Lutz noted it as a twisted ankle with rehab to come yesterday and the next few until their next game this weekend. He explained more to the media after.
“His ankle, rolled his ankle,” Lutz said postgame. “I didn’t, I don’t – they’ll have treatment tomorrow. They’ll give me an update.”
However, it wasn’t significant enough where Thompson couldn’t have checked back in against the Wildcats. He felt he could go back in and, had it not been a multiple possession-lead for the ‘Pokes from the end of the first half on with other players stepping up as well, Lutz would’ve been fine to get him back on the floor as well.
“He told me that he could’ve went back into the game,” Lutz said. “I felt like we had, we had a good enough lineup to go with at that point so there was no real need for it. But, if that probably would’ve got under, you know, 11 points, there’s a good chance I might have put him back in.

“You know, I think Arturo (Dean) came in, um, towards the end of the game and he and Khalil (Brantley) and (Brandon) Newman and (Jamyron) Keller? They handled the press well, which we’ve had our issues with the press late-game, right? And so I thought that they did a good job and that was a step forward, um, in their growth.”
Thompson finished with 10 points (3-6 FG, 2-3 3PT) with three assists, two rebounds, two steals, and a block against K-State. That has his averages as a graduate to 9.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and a steal in 22.9 minutes over 14 games played as some of those, namely scoring and minutes, are among his lowest since being in Stillwater.
It sounds as though Thompson will be fine considering he could’ve missed no time in this one from this injury. Still, there will be a better update on his health going into a pair of road games for Oklahoma State starting in Salt Lake on Saturday.
