Former Colorado EDGE Taje McCoy has committed to Oklahoma State, via the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. McCoy has three years of eligibility remaining.

McCoy spent two seasons at Colorado but redshirted his true freshman season after only appearing in four games. The 6-foot-3 redshirt freshman appeared in all 13 of Colorado’s games last season. He tallied 23 tackles and four sacks.

Taje McCoy played high school football at Putnam City (OK), where he was a three-star recruit. He was the No. 577 overall player and No. 50 EDGE in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

McCoy racked up 97 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries during his senior season at Putnam City. He also occasionally played running back, collecting 33 carries for 213 yards and two touchdowns.

McCoy is the 29th player Oklahoma State has added via the transfer portal this offseason. As of this report, the team has lost 17 players to the portal this offseason. The Cowboys are currently ranked No. 43 in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings.

Oklahoma State HC Mike Gundy makes bold claim

Amid the pending House v. NCAA settlement agreement that is expected to usher in a new age of college athletics, one where schools will be allowed to share millions in revenue with student-athletes, there’s many a former college athlete imagining how they’d handle today’s landscape where NIL deals and the transfer portal reign supreme. Except Mike Gundy.

The longtime Oklahoma State head coach and alumnus knows exactly what would’ve happened to him if he had the ability to sign multi-million dollar deals when he was the Cowboys’ star quarterback in the late 1980s.

“No, because if I had that much money, I’d never have made it. I’d been history,” Gundy quipped Wednesday during a sit-down with local reporters. “I’d be like the guy that played at A&M, Johnny Manziel, probably. I’d have blown all my money and no telling what would’ve happened. So I’m glad I didn’t have that much money.”

In a 2023 Netflix documentary, UNTOLD: Johnny Football, Manziel revealed his drug use was “a constant, daily thing” at the time, according to Yahoo!. He even admitted to spending nearly $5 million on a bender after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Playing at Oklahoma State from 1986-1989, Gundy managed to avoid similar pitfalls before beginning his coaching career as a Cowboys assistant coach in 1990. Fifteen years later, Gundy would become his alma mater’s head football coach, where he’s been for the last two decades.

In 2025, Gundy is set to enter Year 21 leading Oklahoma State. He’s compiled a career record of 169-88 and 102-72 in the Big 12.
