Paul Finebaum shreds Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State for comments on the end of Bedlam
Sad news, at least to some, came out on Tuesday with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State having their annual rivalry game canceled moving forward. For years, the two programs have participated in Bedlam, with the Sooners mostly dominating the football series. But with a move to the SEC happening, the two won’t be scheduling each other moving forward.
Some disappointment with the decision was expressed, with one of college football’s great rivalries taking a back seat. ESPN’s Paul Finebaum was not one of those people. Instead, he decided to shred both Oklahoma State and head coach Mike Gundy for the comments he made about Bedlam ending.

“We’re talking about Stillwater, Oklahoma,” Finebaum said during ESPN’s “Get Up” on Wednesday morning. “Mike Gundy hasn’t said anything significant since ‘I’m 40, I’m a man.’ What he said yesterday was nonsensical. Oklahoma is moving on. They’re going to be playing Alabama, they’ll still be playing Texas. They’ll be playing (Texas) A&M and Georgia. This is a nice little game in a small state but the rest of the country is giving it a big yawn this morning.”
Gundy has been vocal about Oklahoma’s move to the SEC multiple times, calling them out for “following the money.” The Oklahoma State head coach will get a couple more tries at the Sooners on the field, hoping to close the series on a positive note.
Heather Dinich explains why Bedlam series could not continue
ESPN’s Heather Dinich said Oklahoma State’s nonconference scheduling is a major reason why the series against Oklahoma could not continue. She said the Cowboys’ are proud of the schedule is one the program is proud of and is not something they are willing to give up for the Sooners.

“Oklahoma State’s Mike Holder told me this is a byproduct of conference realignment,” Dinich said. “These decisions are not made out of emotions. They booked their nonconference schedule, which, right now, is set almost entirely through 2038 before they knew Oklahoma is going to the SEC. They’re very proud of a lineup they have that includes Arkansas, Alabama, Oregon — there are some big boys. So they’re saying ‘logistically speaking, we can’t do this right now.'”
Dinich also talked to Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione, who said there is hope that the series can continue in a decade’s time. She also compared Bedlam getting canceled to another rivalry the SEC initially took away from college football — Texas-Texas A&M
“Joe Castiligione at Oklahoma said he thinks the series might be able to resume in the 2030s but again, this is a product of what’s happened. And we’ve seen it before. We’ve seen it with Texas-Texas A&M. We just saw Oklahoma and Nebraska!”
