Former Louisville linebacker Darius Thomas has committed to Oklahoma State via the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3’s Pete Nakos has confirmed. Thomas transferred to Louisville in December but re-entered the portal this spring.

Before transferring to Louisville, Thomas spent three seasons at Western Kentucky, where he amassed 21 appearances. He started in all 13 of the Hilltoppers’ games in the 2024 campaign. He tallied 54 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

For his efforts, he was named 2024 All-Conference USA Honorable Mention Defense (LB). Additionally, he was named a Phil Steele Postseason CUSA All-Conference Fourth Team Defense (LB) selection.

Thomas missed the 2023 season due to injury and played in eight games during his true freshman season. His freshman campaign was highlighted by a 42-yard pick-six in a win over Middle Tennessee State.

Darius Thomas played high school football at Miramar (FL), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1,076 overall player and No. 89 safety in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He is the 31st player Oklahoma State has added via the transfer portal this offseason. The Cowboys have also lost 19 players and are currently ranked No. 42 in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings.

Oklahoma State is hoping for a bounce-back season after posting a 3-9 overall record and an 0-9 mark in conference play last year. It was the program’s worst season since head coach Mike Gundy took over in 2005.

Most experts around the country agree that Gundy can’t afford a similar season this year. After Oklahoma State’s spring game on Saturday, Gundy evaluated his team’s offseason progress.

“I’m pleased with where we’re at,” Gundy said. “The good news is we have another week of practice, so we’ll have three more heavy practices where we’ll compete against each other a lot like we did today. That’s really where we find out kind of where we are, and then that’ll give us a chance to lead into the offseason with the players, and then running their own practices and such.

“The challenge now and the adjustments that have to be made. Because we don’t know what will ultimately happen in the portal up through the next eight days. So I would think that we’ll probably have maybe a few more guys go in, I’m guessing. I don’t know. And then we might retrieve some more.”
