Mike Gundy has a ton of respect for Deion Sanders, the way he coaches, and the way he markets himself.

The Oklahoma State leader took some time during his latest press conference to speak on what’s going on in Boulder, Colorado. While Gundy’s been impressed with the way Sanders has returned the Buffaloes to glory in short order, he’s also smitten by the amount of commercials we see featuring Coach Prime any given time you turn your television on.

“Somebody asked me about him three or four weeks ago. Here’s the thing with Coach Sanders. I don’t know him, but here’s what I like. He’s going to do what he wants, the way he wants to do and he believes in, and he don’t care what anybody else thinks,” said Gundy. “Now he may be making more from Burger King and Aflac and whoever else and it might not matter, the more power to him.”

There’s no sour grapes for Gundy. Perhaps he’s trying to work his way into one of Sanders’ commercials moving forward. We wouldn’t mind seeing these two eccentric coaches share the screen for a clip.

Continuing, Gundy elaborated on what he’s seen from Sanders’ team on the field, and why it’s easy to be impressed with the way Colorado has played in 2023.

“From a distance, what I see is, this is what he believes in, and this is what he did,” added Gundy. “I’m guessing that they would have to practice against each other all the time, because their roster numbers would be down, but it’s worked out for him. Now I haven’t really seen them play much. I saw them play a little bit against TCU, but I haven’t seen them play anymore. But the part I did see is his son is making a lot of plays. He’s a really good player. Making a lot of plays, and they’re playing to his strengths. I thought that was good.

“It’ll be great for our conference. He’s certainly proved that you can get rid of your whole team, bring a new team in and play good.”

Of course, Gundy and Sanders will be facing off when Colorado joins the Big 12 next season, but it would’ve been an exciting matchup to see in 2023. Perhaps it’s a good thing for the Cowboys, as Colorado is as hot as any team in the country at the moment.

By that time, Deion Sanders will likely have a wealth of new commercials ready to roll. He’s impressing the college football world with everything he’s doing at the moment, especially Mike Gundy.
