Mike Gundy reveals biggest concern prior to Baylor game
Oklahoma State beat Baylor soundly in a rematch of last season’s Big 12 Championship Game. However, going into the game, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy had plenty of concerns. Chief among those concerns was that he was unsure how they would play because of their inexperience on the defensive side of the ball.
While speaking to college football analyst Joel Klatt, Mike Gundy explained why he was concerned about this.
“You know, every year is different and it’s interesting,” Mike Gundy said. “I was a little unsure of how we would play down there. We have eight guys that play on defense, a considerable number of snaps, that had not ever played a conference game–nor had played on the road.”

“So, I was a little concerned about that. Last year, we were so veteran and so mature on defense,” Mike Gundy continued.

“Offensively, I had a pretty good idea how we would play. And, then, special teams ended up being a big deal for us down there. We had, I think, plus 170 in return yardage in the game and downed three punts inside the 10-yard line. Really, it was a very evenly matched game and special teams is where we found a way to win.”
As Mike Gundy pointed out, Oklahoma State had to overcome an incredibly young defense against a talented Baylor team to win. They did that, and now a path to the Big 12 Championship has been paved for the Cowboys.
The next challenge for Oklahoma State is a tough Texas Tech team in Stillwater.
