Oklahoma State Board of Regents schedules 'special' meeting, sparks Mike Gundy speculation
The Oklahoma State Board of Regents has scheduled a “special” meeting for Friday at 7:30 a.m., according to its website. The meeting was added Wednesday and will take place before the regularly scheduled board meeting begins at 10 a.m.
There is no other information provided as to what will be discussed during the meeting, but many have speculated that it could be about potential changes in the football program. The Cowboys are coming off of their worst season under coach Mike Gundy, finishing 3-9 and failing to win a single Big 12 game.
Rumors of potential staff changes have been brewing all year and are only heating up after a 52-0 loss to Colorado in the season finale. Defensive coordinator Bryan Nardo as well as offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn are certainly on the hot seat.
However, the announcement of the board meeting now calls into question whether OSU is considering a change at head coach. Gundy is currently under contract through the 2028 season and would be owed a whopping $25.3 million in buyout money if the Cowboys decided to fire him.
Gundy has been the coach at Oklahoma State, his alma mater, since 2005. He is the winningest coach in program history with a 169-88 overall record and had taken the Cowboys to 18 straight bowl games prior to this year.

OSU has appeared in the Big 12 Championship twice over the past four seasons but finished runner up both years. Gundy has one conference championship and two New Year’s Six Bowl wins in his 20 seasons at the helm.
It seems as if Gundy will be safe, however, as reports later emerged that it was Nardo and Dunn who are set to be fired instead. We’ll have to wait for the meeting to officially take place to get confirmation.
Either way, it’s been a season to forget for the Cowboys and they’ll hope whatever changes are made can lead to better results in 2025.
