Mike Gundy updates Jaylen Warren's status for the second half of the Big 12 Championship
Jaylen Warren didn’t play in the first half of the Big 12 Championship on Saturday. It doesn’t sound like he’ll play at all, according to Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy.
ABC sideline reporter Molly McGrath asked Gundy if Warren would play in the second half of Oklahoma State’s showdown with Baylor for the Big 12 title — and a potential College Football Playoff spot. He said three words Cowboys fans didn’t want to hear.
“Jaylen can’t play,” Gundy told McGrath during his halftime interview on ABC.
Oklahoma State had just 21 yards in the first half, including 10 from quarterback Spencer Sanders. Without Warren, Gundy has to make some adjustments. That said, he had a message for his team in the halftime locker room.
“We’ve just got to stay the course,” Gundy said. “We’ve got to get back in the flow and stay the course.”
Warren has been dealing with an ankle injury for most of the season, McGrath and The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy reported earlier Saturday. He’s Oklahoma State’s leading rusher, which is a huge blow as the Cowboys fight for their CFP lives.

Jaylen Warren is vital to the Oklahoma State offense
In his first year at Oklahoma State after transferring from Utah State, Warren was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year for his efforts. He ranks fifth in the Big 12 with 94.5 yards per game, but averaged 108.8 over his last 10 games. He also carries the ball 19.8 times per game — second in the Big 12 only to Iowa State’s Breece Hall.
When Baylor and Oklahoma State played earlier this season, Warren had 125 yards and two touchdowns as the Cowboys came away with a 24-14 win over the Bears on Oct. 2.
Gundy and Oklahoma State will have some halftime adjustments to make after Baylor took a 21-6 lead into halftime of the Big 12 Championship. However, the Cowboys might have gotten some of the momentum back by blocking a Bears field goal as time expired in the second quarter.
The second half can we watched on ABC.
