Oklahoma State names Gunnar Gundy starting quarterback vs Iowa State
Oklahoma State has made a decision at quarterback for Saturday’s game against Iowa State. Gunnar Gundy will get the start in place of Spencer Sanders, according to Dave Hunitzer of the Cowboy Sports Network.
Gundy, the son of Cowboys coach Mike Gundy, will make his first career start in place of Sanders, who was ruled out with a shoulder injury. Garret Rangel started last week’s game against Kansas, but is doubtful for this week against Iowa State.

Gundy has appeared in three games this year, completing 14 of 27 yards for 144 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Oklahoma State is looking to bounce back from last week’s loss to Kansas, which dropped the Cowboys out of the College Football Playoff rankings. They’ll kick off against Iowa State Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

Oklahoma State will reportedly have to turn to another option at quarterback again this week. Spencer Sanders has been ruled out vs. Iowa State, The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy reported.

Sanders has appeared in eight games this year for the Cowboys, throwing for 288 yards and 15 touchdowns. He’s also proving to be a threat in the running game, taking 87 carries for 343 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
Last week in his first career start, Rangel threw for 304 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw three interceptions against Kansas. He arrived in Stillwater as a four-star recruit and the No. 17 quarterback prospect from the class of 2022, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Oklahoma State started the year 5-0 before losing to TCU Oct. 15. The Cowboys take a 6-3 record into Saturday’s game against Iowa State. They also fell out of the College Football Playoff rankings as a result after coming in at No. 18 in the first rankings of the year.
