Oklahoma State president Dr. Kayse Shrum has released a statement on Cowboys football coach Mike Gundy’s comments about fans at a recent press conference.

Gundy said that his critics are “the same failure they were before” they’ve said something negative toward others. Dr. Shrum was firm in her stance.

“OSU Athletic Director Chad Weiberg and I value the strength created by bringing the OSU family together,” the statement read. “Coach Gundy’s press conference comments did not reflect the position of the university, and he has subsequently issued a statement to apologize for those offensive remarks.

“We are grateful for the dedicated OSU fans and donors who make our success possible and appreciate their support during this challenging season.”

His comments come amid Oklahoma State’s 3-6 start to the season. With the Cowboys preseason win total being set at 7.5 heading int the year, the best that they can finish with is seven — and that’s if they win their final three regular season games, which would make them bowl eligible, and win the bowl game.

Doing that agaainst TCU, Texas Tech and No. 20 Colorado — all of which have records over .500 — is a tall task for any team in the Big 12 this season. That’s not to mention Oklahoma State will enter Week 11 on a six-game losing streak and still without a victory in conference play.

Criticism is bound to come while on a streak like that, but Oklahoma State still has a chance to extend its season and finish it out on a high note. That effort begins on Saturday against the Horned Frogs.

Kickoff between Oklahoma State and TCU is set for 7 p.m. ET and will air live on FS1. The Cowboys are 10.5-point underdogs.
