Oklahoma State running back AJ Green enters Transfer Portal
Oklahoma State Cowboys running back AJ Green has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned.
Green played his high school football at Union in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There, he was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the eighth-ranked running back and the 130th-ranked player overall in that recruiting cycle.
Prior to his time at Oklahoma State, Green played for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Now, he’s on the hunt for a new program to contribute to.
Green played one season with the Cowboys and it was a frustrating one for the team. Oklahoma State went just 3-9 overall and 0-9 in the Big 12. That was last in the conference standings. Both coordinators lost their jobs following the season and there was a brief but tense standoff between head coach Mike Gundy and the school regarding his contract moving forward.
For his part, Green missed the season with an injury that he suffered over the offseason. With that, he ended up using a redshirt to preserve his eligibility. Had he played, he would have split time with Ollie Gordon, an excellent running back who ultimately struggled to get going this season.

Oklahoma State, as a team, finished the 2024 season 116th in rushing offense, averaging just 111.75 yards per game. That’s a season after they were averaging 155.29 yards per game in 2023.
Prior to his time at Oklahoma State, Green played three seasons for the Arkansas Razorbacks under head coach Sam Pittman. During that time, he played in 37 games and carried the ball 201 times for 953 yards and six touchdowns. That’s 4.7 yards per attempt. On top of that, he also made 19 receptions for 184 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 9.7 yards per reception.
The Transfer Portal opened for its winter window on Monday, December 9th. That is one of two windows that players will have to enter the portal this offseason.
