Oklahoma State will be without their star quarterback as they take on Kansas today. According to College Football Insider Brett McMurphy, Cowboys starting QB Spencer Sanders will miss the Kansas game with a shoulder injury that he’s been dealing with over the last couple of weeks.

Here was the report from McMurphy, which he posted on Twitter, and also includes Oklahoma State’s plans at backup QB:

“Oklahoma State QB Spencer Sanders, who has been battling injuries past few weeks, out today at Kansas, sources told @ActionNetworkHQ. Freshman Garret Rangel may get starting nod at QB over Gunnar Gundy, Coach Mike Gundy’s son, sources said.”

So Sanders out and Rangel or Gundy in. Jayhawks also dealing with injury issues with their starting quarterback, so a pair of backups getting the start for a consequential Big 12 tilt in Lawrence.

Spencer Sanders’ Saturday status uncertain, Mike Gundy’s son could start

Spencer Sanders might not be able to play Saturday against Kansas, according to college football insider Pete Thamel. If Sanders doesn’t start, Mike Gundy’s son, Gunnar Gundy, could make his first career start for Oklahoma State.

Sanders has been toughing out a shoulder injury for the past few weeks. He didn’t look like himself last week, and after getting shutout 48-0 and throwing for a season-low 147 yards, sitting Sanders looks to be the smart decision for him physically.

Losing Sanders would be a huge blow to the Cowboys offense. The senior signal caller has been one of the best quarterbacks in the Big 12 this season, throwing for 2,177 yards, 15 touchdowns compared to five interception. He’s also amassed 343 yards on the ground for eight more scores.
