AJ Storr explains why he transferred to Ole Miss, journey in college

Guard AJ Storr has taken full advantage of the Transfer Portal, as he is entering his fourth and final year of college with his fourth school (Ole Miss). He began his collegiate career at St. John’s before transferring to Wisconsin and then Kansas last season.
Storr spoke with the media on Tuesday, where he discussed what drew him to Ole Miss along with touching on leaving Kansas.
“First of all, [Ole Miss] was one of the first ones to reach out,” Storr said. “They were actually recruiting the second time I entered the Portal, so I had talked to them previously. Coach [Chris] Beard is doing some good things with this program and overall I think I can benefit from playing for coach Beard.”
In 10 seasons of coaching at the Division I level, Beard boasts a 215-97 record with a Sweet 16 appearance (Ole Miss in 2024), an Elite 8 appearance (Texas Tech in 2018) and a National Championship runner-up in 2019 (Texas Tech).
The Rebels are coming off of one of the best seasons in program history under Beard, as they advanced to just their second Sweet Sixteen ever. To say the program is on an upward trajectory would be an understatement.

“It was kind of tough,” Storr responded when asked about leaving Kansas. “I was considering coming back but had a couple of talks with my family and decided that playing for coach Beard was probably gonna be the best thing for my career.”
After averaging 16.8 points at Wisconsin, Storr was ranked the No. 9 overall transfer in last year’s cycle. He however struggled and averaged just 6.1 points last season at Kansas, leading to his departure. He now joins a talented portal class at the ‘Sip, joined by former Kentucky guard Travis Perry and former Louisville Cardinals guard Koren Johnson and forward James Scott.
They hauled in the nation’s No. 19 ranked class, according to On3.
“I’ve learned a lot from every program I’ve been at so far,” Storr said. “I’m just trying to take everything day by day here at Ole Miss and keep getting better. My vision is set on the goal of the team and myself. I feel like I mesh pretty well with the group and we play position less basketball, which makes it easier to play with. Ultimately, it creates better spacing on the floor and guys can guard multiple positions. It makes things easier.”
