After suffering a loss to Texas and struggling to beat USF, many believed that this weekend was one of the best opportunities Ole Miss has had in quite some time to potentially catch the Crimson Tide sleeping and pull off a win versus Alabama this weekend. That was not the case.

Alabama defeated the Rebels 24-10 on Saturday, extending head coach Nick Saban‘s record to 4-0 versus his former assistant and Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.

ESPN’s Matt Barrie and Paul Finebaum spoke about the game on Sunday, with Barrie believing that Kiffin missed a rare opportunity that comes every three to four years to pounce on the competitive SEC West division race, which Finebaum responded too.

“And I’m sure he’ll say something cute today and all the lap dogs out there will just lap it up, but listen I like Lane Kiffin but I’m just tired of it,” Finebaum said. “He’s just the crowned prince that is never going to be the man in charge.”

Kiffin was in the news and on Twitter all week leading up to the game versus his former employer. Whether it was singing the praises of Saban on Twitter or speculating who is actually calling the plays for Alabama’s defense, Kiffin kept the Rebels relevant throughout the week, which came back to bite him on Saturday.

“And by no means does this mean a great deal for Alabama. Alabama will be challenged every week, in two weeks they go to Kyle and that will be another narrative built around it. But for Nick Saban, I don’t know who was calling the shots on defense, but whoever it was he was calling an amazing game,” Finebaum said. “It was just a clear case of out maneuvering Lane Kiffin at every single move.”

Saban’s defense put on a strong showing, holding Ole Miss scoreless in two quarters of the game and limiting a rushing attack that led the conference in rushing last season to just 56 yards on the ground in on Saturday.

But Kiffin wasn’t the only familiar that took an L in Tuscaloosa, as defensive coordinator Pete Golding joined Kiffin’s staff this offseason after five seasons as Alabama’s defensive play caller.

“And all the lines about Pete Golding’s gonna get his revenge, I mean are you kidding me?” Finebaum asked. “That’s the best Alabama has looked all year and I was embarrassed for Lane and Pete Golding yesterday, how small they looked in comparison to old Nick Saban. And I was with you Monday, we were all puzzled by Nick Saban’s comments he got away with another one and good for him.”

Kiffin and Golding have definitely had better memories in Bryant-Denny Stadium in the past to compared this weekend, but they have no time to reminisce, as Ole Miss takes on No. 13 LSU this weekend at 6:00 p.m. ET.
