Few teams stacked as much potential quarterback depth this offseason as Lane Kiffin‘s Rebels, with the Ole Miss quarterback room loaded with quality thanks to a pair of transfers and a high school addition.
The Rebels landed transfers from Oklahoma State and LSU, bringing Spencer Sanders and former five-star Walker Howard into the mix, respectively. They also enrolled quarterback Austin Simmons, who reclassified from 2025 to 2023.
Those three join incumbent starter Jaxson Dart.
“The hardest challenge is you’ve got four guys that I feel are very high-quality football players that can win football games and you’ve got to get all four of them ready to go and give all four of those opportunities to show to their teammates what they can do and to the coaches what they can do and what they can provide for the team,” co-offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. said. “Just being able to manage those reps and opportunities for those guys has definitely been a challenge.”
Dart is once again the anticipated starter, but it’s probably not as clear-cut a case as it might be in most years. Sanders has even more experience and can offer some different skills.
Both have been very productive.
Dart went 226-of-362 passing (62.4%) for 2,974 yards, with 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2022. Sanders went 212-of-368 passing (57.6%) for 2,642 yards, with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

That the Ole Miss quarterback room and battle isn’t strictly limited to just those two says a lot; one, it indicates the overall excitement level about Simmons, the true freshman and, two, it speaks volumes about Howard’s potential as a former five-star prospect.
“It’s a very fun room to work with. I commend those guys for the group that we have, a lot of times you have that you get some tension because of competition, all that. But I feel like those guys have been tremendous and handled it in a very mature way and they’ve come in with the mindset each and every day to get better.”
Regardless how things shake out during fall camp, it’s clear that Kiffin will have options this fall. That’s a good place to be in the Ole Miss quarterback room.
