Former Northwest Mississippi C.C. wide receiver Jarnorris Hopson has committed to Ole Miss, via the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Hopson walked on at Mississippi State in 2022 and played in one game. After the season concluded, he chose to transfer to Northwest Mississippi C.C. in Senatobia, Miss. Prior to his college career, he prepped at Horn Lake (Miss.) where he played football and ran track.

Hopson played in the 2021 MS-AL All-Star Game after a senior season which saw him haul in 30 receptions for 479 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 408 yards and punched it in 10 more times. Finished with 1,550 all-purpose yards.

Last season, NWCC finished 7-3 and Hopson was the leading receiver for the Rangers. The Mississippi recruit finished the season with 35 receptions for 443 yards and four touchdowns.

Jarnorris Hopson visited Ole Miss on Saturday and received an offer the same day. He seemingly enjoyed his trip.

“I met the new wide receivers coach, coach (George) McDonald, saw the whole football side of the program,” Hopson told OMSpirit. “I also got to experience what a basketball game is like at Ole Miss.”

More Ole Miss’ offseason growth

Hopson is only the latest player head coach Lane Kiffin has reeled in through the transfer portal. Ole Miss has add 18 players in the portal, earning the No. 2 spot in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

During a recent appearance on Andy Staples On3OMSpirit’s Zach Berry discussed the Rebels bringing in one of the nation’s best hauls.

“The portal, it’s been Kiffin’s way of bridging that gap between the tier 1 SEC, the tier 1 national programs, to make not only Ole Miss relevant in a dark horse playoff team. To where now I think there is no dark horse anymore. They are a legit threat to the College Football Playoff,” Berry said.

Ole Miss finished the 2023 campaign with an 11-2 record, only losing to Georgia and Alabama. Ole Miss finished the season strong with a convincing 38-25 victory over Penn State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

The Rebels finished No. 9 in the final AP Top 25 of the year. If they can produce similar success next season, they will land in the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff. At Kiffin’s current pace, the CFP is a likely reality.
