Former Oklahoma defensive back Key Lawrence commits to Ole Miss
Former Oklahoma Sooners defensive back Key Lawrence entered the NCAA Transfer Portal in early December, shortly after the portal opened. It took some time, but the top 100 recruit, from the 2020 class, has found a new home for the 2024 season. On3 recently learned that Lawrence has committed to play for head coach Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels.
Lawrence had his first official visit to Ole Miss on December 5, just one day after it was revealed that he would enter the transfer portal. The former Oklahoma safety did not leave Oxford, MS, without an offer in hand. And now that offer has turned into a commitment to the Rebels in preparation for next season.
Although Lawrence is moving on from Oklahoma, he will get a chance to see his former program, coaches, and teammates midway through the 2024 season. Next year, Ole Miss will be one of the programs Oklahoma will face off against in their inaugural SEC season.
As a recruit, he was the No. 88 overall prospect in the 2020 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranked as the nation’s No. 5 safety and No. 1 recruit in Tennessee.
