Former Ole Miss star Murphy Holloway joining Chris Beard's coaching staff
One of the former stars for Ole Miss basketball has decided to come back home to Oxford to join Chris Beard’s coaching staff. Murphy Holloway is joining the Rebels’ coaching staff as a graduate assistant. Holloway made the news official on his Twitter page on Wednesday evening, announcing “I’m BYKKEEE!!”.
During his playing days with the Rebels, Holloway was one of the best small forwards to ever suit up in Oxford. As a senior, he posted complete numbers, averaging 14.5 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. He landed on the SEC All-Tournament Team and the All-SEC second team. The small forward steadily improved throughout his time in Oxford, averaging 8.4 points per game and grabbing 6.6 rebounds per game as a freshman. As a junior, he averaged 11.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
During his professional playing career, Holloway bounced around to 13 different teams from 2013 to 2022. He played in several different countries, Turkey, Israel, Italy, France, the Philippines, South Korea, Bahrain, and Germany.
Some of his best numbers professionally came in the Philippines, when he suited up for GlobalPort Batang Pier. He was dominant there as you might expect, pouring in 27 points per game, grabbing 17.7 rebounds per game, and blocking 2.7 shots per game.
As a high school prospect, Holloway was one of the most highly regarded recruits in the country. He played his high school basketball for Dutch Fork High School (Irmo, South Carolina). He was named Mr. Basketball for the state of South Carolina and was also named the South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year his senior year.

Holloway played in The Basketball Tournament
In 2017, Holloway suited up for Ole Hotty Toddy, a team of former Ole Miss players in The Basketball Tournament. His team was upset in the first round by Team NC Prodigal Sons. The Basketball Tournament is an annual $2 million winner-take-all tournament. Most of the teams are made up of former college stars from a variety of schools across the country.
In the 2018 version of TBT, the former Ole Miss star suited up for Armored Athlete. In three games, he averaged 8.3 points, nine rebounds, and shot 67 percent from the field. Armored Athlete went on to advance all the way to the Super 16 before falling to Boeheim’s Army.
It’ll be interesting to see how his coaching career goes with one of the better coaches in college basketball today.
