Houston (Tex.) Klein Forest wide receiver Jelani Watkins has flown a bit under the radar outside the state of Texas thus far in his recruitment.

But that anonymity could be coming to an end. On Thursday, Watkins picked up his third SEC offer and second outside of the Lone Star State when Ole Miss extended one to him.

Watkins is the No. 64 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 10 wide receiver and the No. 11 sophomore in Texas.

The Industry Comparison shows that On3 is higher on Watkins than the other three major recruiting services, though. In the initial 2024 On300, Watkins was tabbed as the country’s No. 48 prospect, No. 8 wideout and No. 8 player in Texas.

The Rebels join Texas A&M, TCU, Missouri, LSU and nearly a dozen others in pursuit of the 5-foot-9, 150-pounder. Watkins is also an elite track runner and one of the fastest sophomores in the country, with a recorded 10.21 100-meter time to his name.

The early leader so far in his recruitment, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), is Texas A&M. The Aggies were his first offer in the summer of 2021 and have stayed in constant contact since then.

Outside of Texas A&M, Jelani Watkins told AggieScoop that LSU and Houston as two notable schools involved in his recruitment. The four-star recently visited LSU and the Tigers made an impact on the sophomore, who is originally from Louisiana. He also plans to run track in college and will factor the ability to do so in his recruitment.
