Four-star safety Marvin Burks Jr. of Saint Louis (MO) Cardinal Ritter College Prep announced his commitment to Ole Miss Friday evening.

The 6-foot-2, 185 pounder chose the Rebels over Texas A&M, Missouri, LSU, and Oklahoma.

Burks on why he chose Ole Miss

“I chose Ole Miss because I felt that is what is best for me and my family,” Burks said. “I have a great relationship with the head coach and everyone else on the staff, and love the environment and fans. Also, feeling like a priority to a program that is top 10. Also having the opportunity to capitalize on NIL opportunities stood out.”

Relationship with coaching staff + Ole Miss’ plan for Burks

“My relationship with coach Kiffin, coach CP, and coach Carter is huge,” Burks said. “We talk every other day, and just to top that off I have a great relationship with the players at Ole Miss. They plan on using me in a variety of ways in their defense. We all mainly talked about me being in position to fly around and play freely and gradually get better at more than one thing.”

Marvin Burks Jr. Scouting Summary

“Versatile playmaker on both sides of the ball who is athletic enough to get sideline to sideline but isn’t scared to play between the hashes either,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “Long and leaner defensive back prospect with a wiry build. Solid top-end speed who eats yards with his stride length. Ran an impressive 11.16 100m and 22.60 200m given his length during his junior track and field season.”

“Beyond a willing tackler. Enforcer in the run game and runs the alley with malicious intent. Rangy center fielder who has excellent field vision as a deep safety. Shows natural ball skills while playing receiver. High upside and high floor player whose best ball is ahead of him. If he is unable to carry the necessary weight you still have a rangy safety who is a willing tackler. If he adds the necessary weight while maintaining his athleticism you have a potential top-100 safety prospect.”

Burks ranks as the No. 337 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts all four major recruiting services. He also tabs in as the No. 30 safety and the No. 10 player in the state of Missouri.
