Lane Kiffin congratulates Georgia on SEC title, looks forward to next year's matchup
Lane Kiffin is officially staying at Ole Miss, as the future continues to be bright in Oxford. The head coach himself has spoken about how excited he is for the coming years and with the 2022 SEC season officially over, he has started to look at next year’s schedule.
For the first time since 2016, Georgia will be on Ole Miss’ schedule, with the Bulldogs playing host. They will for sure be the reigning SEC champions on the Nov. 11 matchup, securing another title on Saturday afternoon against LSU.
Kiffin thinks they will still be the national champions as well, revealing who he will be cheering for in the upcoming College Football Playoff.
“Congrats on the big win today,” Kiffin said. “@GeorgiaFootball @KirbySmartUGA Dominant performance!!! Good luck and look forward to playing the Back to Back National champs!!”
Kiffin has not been to Athens in some time now, last playing at Sanford Stadium in 2015 as the offensive coordinator of Alabama. Funny enough, Smart was still in Tuscaloosa on staff then as the defensive coordinator before leaving the following year.
There will be at least one more game of Georgia Kiffin will get to watch this season, most likely heading to Atlanta for a College Football Playoff semifinal in the Peach Bowl. Their opponent will be determined on Sunday morning by the committee.

Either way, we know who the Ole Miss headman will be cheering for. It just means more for Kiffin.
Lane Kiffin signs contract extension with Ole Miss
After he turned down the head coaching job at Auburn, the expectation was Lane Kiffin would sign a contract extension at Ole Miss. The two sides came to an agreement Tuesday, Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger reported.
Kiffin’s new deal is for six years with a $9 million per year salary, Dellenger reported. There’s also a rollover to a seventh year as part of the agreement.
After Auburn fired Bryan Harsin, rumors swirled connecting Kiffin to the Tigers’ job. In the days leading up to the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving, that noise grew even louder, but On3’s Matt Zenitz and OM Spirit’s Ben Garrett reported Kiffin told his players he was likely staying barring any significant changes. However, he didn’t want to announce anything until after the rivalry game — a 24-22 loss to Mississippi State — so he didn’t take anything away from the matchup.
Although rumors kept swirling even into the Egg Bowl, Kiffin had already told his team he was planning to stay put in Oxford rather than take the head coach job at Auburn. The job eventually went to Hugh Freeze.
