Lane Kiffin is being heavily linked with the Auburn job and as the 2022 season draws to a close, the smoke is becoming greater. In fact, a report came out on Monday night that Kiffin would be stepping down as Ole Miss head coach after Thursday’s Egg Bowl to become the next man up on the Plains.

Rumors around the internet began to swirl with people reacting. Of course, Kiffin was one of those, using his Twitter account to respond. He said his stepping down would be news to him before calling out the reporter’s sources on the matter.

“That’s news to me Jon,” said Kiffin with some reactionary emojis attached. “Nice sources.”

Ole Miss will see its regular season end on Thursday, with another Thanksgiving showdown against Mississippi State on the schedule. Friday would be a day before Auburn has their finale, playing against Kiffin’s old team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, in the Iron Bowl.

Kiffin leaving Ole Miss and possibly joining Auburn before Carnell “Cadillac” Williams has the opportunity to finish out the year does not seem like something the head coach would do. While he has not publicly denied his connection to the Tigers, he has said there will be no movement on Black Friday.

The coaching search saga will continue on heading into next week.

Lane Kiffin addresses Auburn rumors once again

“I don’t know what else to say. I’m extremely happy here,” Kiffin said.

Hours later, reports have surfaced saying that Kiffin is leaning toward leaving the Rebels in favor of Auburn. This doesn’t come as a surprise, as many believed him to be the No. 1 target for the Tigers head coaching vacancy since Bryan Harsin’s firing in late October.

It should be noted that the report said Auburn has not formally offered to job to anyone as of Monday night, but Kiffin could be announced as the Tigers’ new headman as soon as Friday, one day following the 2022 Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

Regardless if the rumors are true, Kiffin never said he wasn’t considering the position. Only that he was extremely happy in Oxford. For now, however, it seems the final outcome will be up for personal interpretations for the time being.
