Ole Miss did not have one of their top receivers when they traveled to Tuscaloosa on Saturday, a game which resulted in a 42-21 loss. Wideout Jonathan Mingo is currently sidelined after suffering a broken foot earlier this week.
The Mississippi native is the team’s second leading receiver in multiple categories, notching 15 receptions for 290 yards and three touchdowns this season.
Following the game, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin spoke about the changes in preparation the team went through after learning that Mingo would be unavailable for this weekend’s game and how it impacted the play on the field.
“I don’t, that was a late-in-the-week thing,” Kiffin said when asked if he had an update on Mingo. “You know I feel down for the kid. He was in tears and wanted to play in this game. He’s worked as hard as anybody. I feel bad for Matt [Corral] losing him, finding out Thursday that he wasn’t going to play, so we’ll see.”
Prior to Saturday afternoon, the Ole Miss receivers were dominant, frequently posting big plays and averaging 17.7 yards per reception between Mingo, Dontario Drummond and Braylon Sanders.

“When you lose a significant player late in the week it’s difficult because your game plan’s already in when we found out he wasn’t going to play, so it is what it is,” Kiffin added. “I kind of felt bad for Matt when it happened that he wasn’t coming in with full strength weapons to go into this matchup. But we gotta get better, and whoever plays, plays.”
The junior is out indefinitely.
Ole Miss offense came to a roaring halt against Crimson Tide
While Corral’s stats on Saturday were not terrible, they were subpar compared to what he has done this season. Corral went 21-for-29 with 213 yards and two touchdowns, one through the air to Chase Rogers and one on the ground, a 10-yard run. On the bright side for Ole Miss, Corral did not throw an interception and has yet to toss a pick yet this year. He threw 14 last year.
The Ole Miss offense was held to 291 total yards after averaging 635.3 yards per game prior to Saturday. Going into the locker room at half time, the Rebels were down 28-0 with just 109 yards of offense.
The Rebels move to 3-1 on the year, and face Arkansas at home next weekend. The Razorbacks were blown out in Athens on Saturday, falling 37-0 to the No. 2 Bulldogs.
