Things only got worse for the Ole Miss Rebels in the final minutes of their game vs. South Carolina on Saturday. Not only did Allen Flanigan get ejected in the second half for throwing a nasty elbow to South Carolina’s Zachary Davis, but Jaemyn Brakefield injured his wrist after bracing his fall going up for a rebound.
Brakefield was helped to the locker room with the Rebels’ medical staff with a few minutes (2:07) remaining of the game. Before he left the game, Brakefield finished the game with 12 points and seven rebounds in his team’s 72-59 loss. South Carolina’s lead was never threatened at all in the second half and they coasted to victory.
Before he took the nasty fall, Brakefield joined the 1,000-career points club.
With the win, South Carolina snapped their two-game losing streak. Up next, the Gamecocks will face Texas A&M on Wednesday. Ole Miss is at home on Wednesday against No. 13 Alabama. South Carolina can give their NCAA Tournament seeding a boost with their last two games (No. 24 Florida and No. 5 Tennessee).
Jaemyn Brakefield has been one of the Rebels most complete players the past few years. He’s been averaging 11.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game this year. He’s played for Ole Miss the past three years and before joining them in the transfer portal, he played for the Duke Blue Devils his freshman season.
Brakefield has erupted in four games this year for the Rebels, pouring in over 20 points against Florida, Tennessee, California, and N.C. State.
