Ahead of what was supposed to be one of the better games last week, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin made news when doing a pregame interview with CBS sideline reporter Jamie Erdahl.

“Here we go, get your popcorn ready,” Kiffin said abruptly before tossing his headset toward the camera and running off.

On Tuesday, Erdahl addressed the situation via her Instagram story after Kiffin called her to apologize.

“In the world of things I never thought I’d have to talk about, I’m here to talk about popcorn,” Erdahl said. “Yeah, Coach Kiffin reached out to apologize, but as I said back to him, it didn’t bother me at all. I thought it was great TV. Clearly it was, since we’re all still talking about it.

“It had nothing to do with me, that whole response to my question. People saying that it was disrespectful to me, I really did not take it that way. I just wish it had been a better day for Ole Miss football. But it’s not a thing. That’s my popcorn TED Talk.”

Kiffin’s team was not prepared for the Crimson Tide on either side of the ball Saturday, allowing 28 first half points while being shut out on offense. The offensive performance was by far the worst of Lane Kiffin’s 14-game tenure, as the Rebels posted just 291 yards of total offense. Ole Miss did not score until there was 8:25 remaining in the third quarter.

Despite the blowout result, the game generated a ratings boost for CBS. According to the broadcasting giant, the game ranked No. 1 among all college football games on Saturday and was the most-watched Week 5 meeting in six years.

Kiffin responds to Alabama’s fourth-quarter trolling

While Alabama fans sang along to Dixieland Delight in the fourth quarter, Big Al was seen dancing in the Alabama end zone — with a large popcorn box prop around the waist of the costume.

Following the troll and subsequent loss, Kiffin is taking things in stride. Today, the Ole Miss head coach took to Twitter to wish the Crimson Tide good luck.

“Now that’s funny! Good,” tweeted Kiffin. “Alabama — good luck, stay healthy, and see you next year.”

Kiffin appreciates a good troll, even when he’s the butt of the joke. While the Ole Miss head coach dishes it out, at least he can take it when the joke’s on him.
