Jaxson Dart apologizes for late interception vs. Florida, losing game
No. 9 Ole Miss suffered a stunning upset loss on the road at Florida on Saturday, perhaps ending its chances of reaching the College Football Playoff. Quarterback Jaxson Dart came away apologetic after the fact.
The Rebels quarterback threw a late interception that essentially sealed the loss.
“Yeah, bad decision by me,” Dart said after the game, staring at the floor from behind a lectern. “I think the only thing I can really say right now is sorry. Sorry to my teammates. Sorry to my coaches. Sorry for the fans. Can’t lose these games.”
Jaxson Dart has been a huge part of Ole Miss’ success this season, one of the most statistically productive quarterbacks in the country. Even in the loss to Florida he topped the 300-yard mark.
Dart finished 24-of-41 passing for 323 yards and two touchdowns, albeit against two interceptions.
“This one’s going to hurt for a really long time,” Jaxson Dart said. “I think that’s all I can really say now is I’m sorry.”
Paul Finebaum questions Ole Miss’ window
It’s been a long, long time since someone has been as effective at quarterback as Jaxson Dart at Ole Miss. Only Eli Manning has passed for more career yardage, and Dart will likely change that in the Egg Bowl this week.

The Rebels also went out and spent heavily in the transfer portal, attracting an elite crop of players to Oxford.
It has ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum wondering ‘if not now, when?’ for Ole Miss.
“Unfortunately, Ole Miss found the hot team and just simply looked like they did against Kentucky about two months ago,” Finebaum told Matt Barrie on Sunday morning. “I feel bad because we sat here two weeks ago praising Lane Kiffin for finally winning the biggest game of his career. And now, he has lost the biggest game of his career. [It] clearly knocked them out of the playoffs.
“I mean, it came down to the final couple of seconds — so it wasn’t like they only scored three points and got rolled over. I know we’ll get to that game in a few minutes, but I don’t see them coming back. The real unfortunate thing is, this is the best Ole Miss team in 60 years. It was Lane Kiffin’s best shot, and if he can’t win with these guys, who can he win with?”
That’s a question that will likely torment Jaxson Dart and the Ole Miss faithful for a good while longer.
