Tre Harris led Ole Miss in receiving last season in his first year in Oxford. With him back for another in The ‘Sip, Jaxson Dart is as happy as anyone considering how highly he regards his leading target.

Dart spoke about Harris and his connections with him on the field while both were at SEC Media Days in Dallas on Monday. That included a correction of how many scores that he threw to him just in their season opener last fall.

“I think it was four touchdowns, yeah,” Dart said.

Dart was right with Harris posting four touchdowns and 133 yards off of just six catches in his debut as a Rebel against Mercer.

Still, that was just one of his performances that showed Dart what kind of player he was. That’s why, in his answer, he deemed him to be the top receiver in all of college football.

“Tre is a monster,” Dart stated. “I’m a little biased. I think he’s the best receiver in the country.”

“Just the plays that he makes. Then his mindset each and every day of being able to attack it. There’s nobody else like him,” said Dart. “He makes my job a lot easier just being able to get the ball in his hands and him being able to go make plays.”

Harris came to Ole Miss after three seasons at Louisiana Tech, including one as their leading receiver prior to his transfer. He arrived as the No. 58 player in the portal and the No. 16 WR per On3’s 2023 Transfer Portal Top Players.

However, Harris may have even outplayed that ranking in 2023. He did so with 54 catches, second only to Dayton Wade, for 985 yards and eight scores. Much of that came from some top performances like against Mercer as well as LSU, Auburn, Texas A&M, and then Penn State in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.

Harris was one of the leading producers for Ole Miss last fall. Dart now expects more of the same with him back in their receiving corps this year.

“He’s going to be a monster this season,” Dart said.

Kiffin: Jaxson Dart is a 99 overall in leadership, ready for the spotlight in 2024

Lane Kiffin doesn’t believe there’s many areas that Jaxson Dart has to improve entering another season as Ole Miss‘ starter.

While speaking at SEC Media Days, Kiffin discussed Dart ahead of his third season with the Rebels. Instead, the Ole Miss head coach opted to instead heap immense praise on his quarterback. In doing so, he went as far to say he’s a 99-overall in leadership while staying in the theme of the release of EA Sports College Football 25.

“I think we’re always trying to improve players, obviously. I think that, with Jaxson, there’s not as much to point to because he did finish the season really well,” Kiffin explained. “We’ve had him now for a while. A lot of times we’ve got to go work on leadership things with someone, investing into their team and players. He’s — in honor (NCAA Football 25) coming out. Everybody is so excited, including Knox, because there’s a party tonight to play this game or whatever. It makes me think of, if they had a rating of like, which maybe they do, leadership of a quarterback? He would be a 99, you know, because he invests into the players so much.”

“A lot of times, you’ve got to work on that with them. He has that nailed. So, I think just continuing his decision-making. Then, no matter how grounded you are, the spotlight gets big and the pressure gets bigger. Him maintaining what he did really well at the end of the year, which is taking care of the football, and not forcing balls and making really good decisions.”
