Luke Altmyer was the starting quarterback for Ole Miss against Central Arkansas. He, eventually, had to leave the game following an upper-body injury. In his place, Jaxson Dart came into the game and thrived after struggling in Week 1.

Now, with Lane Kiffin giving an optimistic look at Luke Altmyer’s injury, it would appear that the quarterback competition is still going on. Now, they’re pushing forward with it.

It’s a situation where Jaxson Dart and Luke Altmyer are competing, it could be easy to have a poor relationship between the two. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case, as Dart explained his emotions at seeing Altmyer go down with an injury to the media.

“You definitely feel for him in that situation,” Jaxson Dart said. “You know, you never hope someone gets hurt or stuff like that, and I can tell, you know, when I saw it happen that it kind of shook him a little bit, but I think it showed his toughness because he was able to stay in there after it happened and have successful drives.”

“So, I was just really trying to be there for him and do all I can to look after him.”

Jaxson Dart is a former four-star recruit in the Class of 2021, who originally went to USC. This past offseason, he transferred to Ole Miss. Luke Altmyer, a slightly lower-ranked four-star in the Class of 2021, is a Starkville native who chose Ole Miss out of high school.

Ole Miss’ next game is against Georgia Tech.

Jaxson Dart on coming off the bench

Jaxson Dart transferred to Ole Miss expecting to be the starter. However, he’s been in a difficult quarterback competition and had to come off the bench against Central Arkansas. For Dart, it was a learning experience.

“Yeah it’s definitely not easy. Especially when you have no idea when you’re gonna be coming in or when your time is. And so, there’s definitely times where it’s hard to try to just stay focused as much as you can…I think for me, I learned about myself. Like, you really just gotta be prepared every single play. And never know what’s going to happen. You never know when your number is going to be called. So I think that’s that’s something that I learned a lot tonight,” Jaxson Dart said.

“I was just able to make some plays here and there. Quite honestly, I feel like I could have made a lot a lot more plays. And there were definitely things that I missed that I’m kind of bummed about and looking forward to cleaning up in the future. But I just hold myself to a high standard and those mistakes that, I want to for sure clean those things up, because I know that the capabilities of this team and all the players around me on offense. We do our part and get them the ball they’re going to make a huge plays for us. So try and just get better each and every day.”
