Throughout the spring, it’s been noticeable how open and personable Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart has been with the entire team. That’s something, as he explained, he’s been working on as a point of leadership.

His inspiration came from a conversation he had with Charlie Weis Sr. about Tom Brady. Weis was Brady’s first offensive coordinator in the NFL and had a conversation with Jaxson Dart about how Brady succeeded in taking over in New England.

“I had a great talk with Coach Weis’ father,” Dart said. “Kind of going through some of the things he saw different in Tom Brady than any other quarterback, which I thought was really unique about him being a later draft pick, and him coming into a room where there was already an established quarterback, and then taking over team and taking over the franchise. What Coach Weis Sr. said was that he took a responsibility to make a relationship with everybody on the team regardless of position.”

2024 is going to be Jaxson Dart’s third season at Ole Miss after he transferred in from USC. The hope, this season, is to take another step forward and bring the program to the College Football Playoff for the first time in its history.

“I think that when you can look at a quarterback and really say, ‘Okay, I trust him.’ I see that he cares more than just about himself. He cares about everybody on the team, and I think that’s something that I took to heart and really related to. I think I’m just an outgoing person in general, but I love making relationships with people. That’s what’s gonna last a lifetime,” Dart said.

“So, I try to take it day-by-day and do my part trying to make this team great, make the culture great, and make genuine relationships with people.”

If Jaxson Dart can continue to grow as a leader and emulate someone like Tom Brady as much as possible, then there’s a good chance the Ole Miss offense is going to be in good hands this season.

Jaxson Dart on where he wants to improve in 2024

Heading into the 2024 season, Jaxson Dart is still looking for areas to improve. That starts with being like an offensive coordinator on the field.

“There’s a lot of things I want to improve on. I want to be like an OC out there. I want Coach [Charlie] Weis to be able to trust me to call my own plays if I have to,” Dart said.

“The big thing for me and him is I want to understand, every time he calls a play, what he’s looking at and what he’s looking to attack. There’s a lot of things to improve on and I’m really excited to continue to improve myself day in and day out.”
