Jaxson Dart got the start and the win over Troy as QB1 during the Rebels’ season-opener. But in Week 2 against an outmatched foe like Central Arkansas, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin experimented with his quarterbacks a bit. Instead of Dart, sophomore Luke Altmyer took the first snap in Week 2 for the Rebels. Which left Dart to come off the bench.

Despite swapping the two around, the Ole Miss quarterbacks finished with a terrific day through the air. 10/15 for 182 yards and two touchdowns for Dart. Then, just eight completions on 13 pass attempts for yards for Altmyer. Though, like Dart, he also added a pair of touchdowns.

So Dart didn’t flinch despite his demotion to the bench. But it seems that move will just be for one game as Dart once again performed well in the snaps he got. And coming off the bench didn’t diminish his confidence a single bit. Here was Dart after the game, explaining his mindset about the game and his connection with his teammates.

Jaxson Dart reveals mindset when coming off the bench

“Yeah it’s definitely not easy. Especially when you have no idea when you’re gonna be coming in or when your time is. And so, there’s definitely times where it’s hard to try to just stay focused as much as you can. For me, I just give like a huge shout out to my teammates for their support and ll that stuff. Our camaraderie is just getting stronger and stronger and everybody’s growing together. I think that today was a big step for us and just showed that we look after each other. Definitely when there’s times where people are kind of going through different situations. You know we have each other’s back.

“I think for me, I learned about myself. Like, you really just gotta be prepared every single play. And never know what’s going to happen. You never know when your your number is going to be called. So I think that’s that’s something that I learned a lot tonight.”

“I was just able to make some some plays here and there. Quite honestly, I feel like I could have made a lot a lot more plays. And there were definitely things that I missed that I’m kind of bummed about and looking forward to to cleaning up in the future. But I just hold myself to a high standard and those mistakes that, I want to for sure clean those things up, because I know that the capabilities of this team and all the players around me on offense. We do our part and get them the ball they’re going to make a huge plays for us. So try and just get better each and every day.”
