Kermit Davis offers high praise for Auburn’s Wendell Green
Auburn guard Wendell Green Jr. has proven to be one of the SEC’s most dynamic guards since transferring to The Plains from Eastern Kentucky last season. That idea was on full display again on Tuesday night as Ole Miss’ Kermit Davis said the Rebels didn’t have an answer for him during an 82-73 win for the Tigers.
Davis applauded Green after the game for the ease with which the 5’11 junior scored on the Revels in Oxford. It was all from his feel for the game in isolation opportunities and, by the end of the game, Davis said nobody on his team proved very effective against him.
“You saw it. He made 24-foot shots. (He) started playing one on one and was elevating at 17, 18 feet. It’s just basketball,” said Davis. “Bruce (Pearl) is a really good coach but it wasn’t a lot of tricky plays. Just one on one isos. (Plus) he got in the open floor.”

“We just couldn’t. We tried everybody on him and he got the best of all of us,” Davis said.
Green finished the night with season highs in points with 23 and assists with seven. He also recorded five rebounds and three steals while shooting a perfect 11-11 from the charity stripe. That was more than enough to get Auburn over the finish line against Ole Miss. It also brought Green’s averages up to 13.4 points, 3.8 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.4 steals on the year.
Sometimes you just have to throw your hands up, much like Davis did earlier this week, with a player like Green. He may not always do it efficiently but, on some nights, he is just going to get his buckets. Combine that with his playmaking and, come the final buzzer, Green was just simply too much for the Rebels to handle.
