Last Saturday, Ole Miss took care of business against ULM. Despite that, head coach Lane Kiffin was frustrated with his offensive line for allowing too many negative plays.

Ahead of the Egg Bowl, Kiffin addressed those struggles but did take the time to note that not every negative play is the offensive line’s fault. There are a lot of factors that go into negative plays beyond the offensive line too.

“We had a lot of negative plays in that game, which doesn’t necessarily mean all offensive line,” Lane Kiffin said. “Sometimes it’s a (running) back, stopping his feet or a tight end doing something or our quarterback taking a sack. We did not play great up front by any means upfront. So, we’ll continue to look at things. Maybe get some help back injury-wise, and just go from there.”

This Thanksgiving, Ole Miss is getting ready to take on Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl. That’s a game that Kiffin will need to find a way to prevent negative plays in to win.

Despite that concern with Ole Miss’ offense, Rece Davis of ESPN still thinks that Ole Miss is in a good position to win the Egg Bowl and cover the spread in the process.

“You know, this is a Thanksgiving tradition in our house. We love watching the Egg Bowl. There’s usually something bizarre, somebody’s hiking their leg, some kind of weird call. I called an Egg Bowl once where Dak Prescott wasn’t going to play and then came off the bench and led them to victory with a weird Bo Wallace fumble through the end zone at the end and overtime to finish the game,” Davis said.

“I know bizarre things happen. But man, Mississippi State can’t get behind that even at home. I do not like laying that many points in a rivalry game, especially when you know when you’re laying them on the road. But I’m going to take Ole Miss and lay the 10.”

Lane Kiffin speaks about importance of winning Egg Bowl

Ahead of the Egg Bowl, Lane Kiffin knows that winning the game is going to be vital. Not only is it worth in-state bragging rights, but it’s also going to be huge to help Ole Miss have a 10-win regular season campaign.

“I mean, it would be huge regardless of that stuff,” Kiffin said.

“Because it’s a big rivalry game. So no matter what, it would be big and I think it gets extra big because, you know, losing it last year. And then like you just said there’s a lot to be had, (a chance) to get to 10 wins. 10 regular season wins for the second time in three years and never been done before. Would be pretty neat. And then get through that and then go get to number 11.”
