Lane Kiffin addresses team doctor’s collapse on Ole Miss sideline
In the fourth quarter of Ole Miss‘ 26-14 win over Oklahoma, the Rebels’ team doctor, Dr. Kurre Luber, collapsed on the sideline, briefly stopping play. After the game, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin revealed his perspective on the terrifying moment.
“That was scary,” Kiffin said. “I didn’t see right when it happened with Dr. Luber. He’s been awesome around here. He’s been awesome to my family. Great man. That was a really scary moment when he wasn’t moving.”
Luber received medical attention immediately after falling, with three other medical professionals surrounding him. Ole Miss’ roster encircled Luber as well, with many of the players praying for his health.
After remaining on the ground for several minutes, Luber was helped to his feet and walked off the field on his own power. Rebels fans erupted, showering the team doctor with applause. Lane Kiffin was proud of his team’s response to the situation.
“I told (defensive end) Jared (Ivey) when we got everyone together and prayed, I said, ‘That was a pretty powerful prayer’ because right as we got done praying he stood up,'” Kiffin said. “It was pretty neat that he was back. We saw him after. A lot better than what we were initially worried about.”
