Lane Kiffin believes Ole Miss is peaking at right time entering final two weeks of regular season
Ole Miss looks like a true national title contender as the 2024 regular season winds down. The Rebels had blowout wins over Arkansas and Georgia ahead of their bye last weekend.
They then had some time off to recover and get healthy before closing out the regular season against Florida on Saturday and Mississippi State next week.
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin met with the media ahead of the matchup against the Gators. He shared that he loves where his Rebels team is at with two regular season games remaining.
“I think we are peaking at the right time,” Lane Kiffin said. “The last couple of games, obviously the Georgia game, a three-score win and a 30-point win at Arkansas. So I do think that we’re playing really well right now, which it’s exciting to be playing well at the end of the season, at any season, let alone when there’s a new playoff format. So that’s exciting.”
Ole Miss is in a good spot as far as potentially reaching the College Football Playoff. The Rebels are currently No. 9 in the rankings ahead of Saturday’s game against Florida.
Even better for Ole Miss is the fact that the Rebels are as healthy as they’ve been all season after having a bye last weekend. They are set to get star receiver Tre Harris back against Florida. He leads the Rebels with 59 catches for 987 yards and six touchdowns, despite missing three straight games.

“I think we’re getting stronger, being out there. Tre now looking like he’s ready to go. We haven’t had him for 3.5 games,” Kiffin said. “And over that time I think Jaxson’s led the country in passing without him. So really excited to get the best receiver in the country back.”
Ole Miss is also getting some other guys back to full strength who have either been limited or out as of late.
“And some other things. This is the first time our o-line, first and second string, has been fully healthy and practicing. Logan Diggs is doing the most that he’s done. And then we had a lot of guys playing hurt – Cayden Lee, JJ Pegues. Really, Princely [Umanmielen] is still just coming back, which it’s exciting to see him back the last couple of weeks after not playing the LSU game, not playing at the end of the Kentucky game,” Kiffin said.
“So it’s really exciting. A lot of times you’re struggling at the end of the year health wise. To be in the best shape really we’ve been all year long. So now we’ve got to build on that and not just feel good about how we’ve played but come play even better.”
