It was a special day for Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin and family, as his father, Monte Kiffin, was inducted into the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor. Lane Kiffin was in attendance as his father spoke in front of a home crowd prior to a matchup with the Atlanta Falcons.

The coach later tweeted his congratulations to his dad.

Thank you for a wonderful day,” Lane Kiffin said. “As he said he loves you you guys!!”

Monte Kiffin spent 13 years with the Buccaneers as a defensive coordinator from 1996-2008. Tampa Bay was a top 10 defense every single season except for one. He also had one-year stints in Minnesota, New Orleans and Dallas.

“I want to thank my wife, my family, the players and coaches, the Glazer family and the fans of Tampa Bay,” Monte Kiffin said. “Go Bucs and I love you guys!”

The former coach then led the crowd in a chant to get the energy going. The Buccaneers defeated the Falcons to improve to 2-0 in the young season behind five touchdowns from quarterback Tom Brady. That included two to tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Lane Kiffin followed in his father’s footsteps to become a coach as well. A 10-year head coach in the college ranks, he has made stops at Tennessee, USC and Florida Atlantic. He took over as the Rebels coach in 2020.

Ole Miss finished 5-5 in his inaugural season. The Rebels have got off to a hot start this season and are currently 3-0. Most recently, they secured a blowout victory against Tulane by score of 61-21.

Rebels quarterback Matt Corral is already making a case to be a Heisman trophy candidate. The SEC’s leading returning passer already has 997 yards passing and nine touchdowns.

Ole Miss will look to continue its success as it opens SEC play against No. 1 Alabama on Oct. 2. Luckily Lane Kiffin has a bye this week so had plenty of time to make the trip to see Monte Kiffin honored. Now it’s dad’s turn to support son once more on the college football field.
