Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has been as outspoken on the College Football Playoff and its selection process more than any coach in the country and with his Rebels No. 13 in the latest CFP poll, his stance has not changed.

Kiffin didn’t hold back when revealing his opinion on the other major conferences across the country, adding that the SEC should be held to a higher standard than others on the gridiron.

“I think that this is what you’re probably going to have to get used to as fans, teams having multiple losses in this conference,” Kiffin said, via Michael Katz on X. “… It’s why it’s just different, it’s just totally different, and these comparisons of other conferences and the ACC and the Big 12.

“You might as well be in different leagues. Not conferences, different leagues. Like, here’s the NFL, here’s the SEC, here’s those few Big Ten teams and then here’s everybody else.”

The SEC would have four teams in the College Football Playoff if the season ended today, which is a third of the 12-team field. The Big Ten would have four as well — add in Notre Dame and its status as an independent and Boise State‘s position as the top team in the Mountain West, there’s only room for one team from the ACC and Big 12 and the would be their conference champions.

As it stands, Ole Miss is on the outside looking in depsite having a head-to-head win over Georgia, who is expected to be in the CFP regardless of the SEC Championship’s outcome. Teams like Boise State, Indiana and Miami, who might not have the same strength of schedule as the Rebels, are all ranked ahead of Kiffin’s group.

“It’s a bad system, and you have people in there in place of it.” Kiffin continued. “… Have any of those coaches (on the committee) been down here in the deep south, into these stadiums and played in these games that are on this? So, how do they even know? How do they even know what it’s like to have to go win in these stadiums in these places and on the road.

“… It’s much different than where these other conferences go and play their 6-6 teams that they have to go play, or 5-5 teams at the time … and you have to get up for it every week. It’s a lot easier when you have to get up for two games a year.”

Conference championship week still needs to play out, of course. But it appears that the Rebels will be right on the outside of the bubble when the final rankings release.

For now, whether change comes to a “bad” system remains to be seen.
