Lane Kiffin contract: Ole Miss head coach reportedly gets auto one-year extension after Arkansas win

Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin earned himself a contract extension with a victory against Arkansas on Saturday. The Rebels rolled to a 63-31 rout of the Razorbacks to earn their seventh win of the season.
According to Steve Berkowitz of USA Today, that triggered a clause in Kiffin’s contract to extend it by one season. The coach was previously signed through the 2029 season and that has now been extended through 2030.
Kiffin is now set to make $9 million during the final season of his contract, with $7.2 million of that being guaranteed. His annual salary for the current season is $8.85 million.
The victory for Ole Miss on Saturday marked its second straight as the offense scored more than double the amount of points it had in any SEC game prior. Receiver Jordan Watkins had an absolutely explosive performance to finish with eight catches for 254 yards and five touchdowns.
The Rebels improved to 7-2 (3-2 SEC) on the year with the win against Arkansas. Kiffin took over the program in 2020 and has compiled a 40-17 overall record since, including an 11-2 record last season that marked the best in Ole Miss history.

Kiffin has multiple other incentives he can earn this season to increase his salary. He receives an extra $150,000 for every SEC game he wins, putting his total at $450,000 and counting for this year.
Additionally, Kiffin would receive an extra $50,000 if he wins SEC Coach of the Year and $150,000 if he leads to team to a College Football Playoff berth. The incentives increase for each round the Rebels were to advance, going all the way up to a $1 million bonus for winning the national championship.
Ole Miss has a long way to if it hopes to reach those goals, likely needing to win its remaining three games to give itself a chance to reach the playoff. The Rebels will have the opportunity to earn a resume-building win next week when they face No. 2 Georgia in Oxford.
